AND THE AWARD FOR BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY GOES TO....NONE OF THE ABOVE

The Shadow,Battle Royale,The Last Starfighter,Logan's Run,The Evil Dead,Death Wish,Conan the Barbarian,Fahrenheit 451,Friday the 13th,Nightmare On Elm Street,Hellraiser,The Birds,The Warriors,Red Sonja,Meatballs,Porky's,Escape From New York,Short Circuit,1984,Dune,Footloose,Fame,The Thing
Have you seen any of these movies?Well, you're gonna see them again. This is only a sampling of recent and upcoming remakes slated for release for this and next year.I haven't even dipped into the mind boggling amount of former t.v shows to also have the big screen promotion behind them.Whats happening here?Where are the screen writers?Where are the original ideas?
The funniest part about all of this is the fact that a good chunk of these flicks weren't that great to begin with,I mean,Red Sonja!?!Dune!?!What the...But alas the green light has been burning bright in Hollywood for quite sometime now.My only hope here is that we get a sort of reinvention with some of these and maybe even some completely different endings. Can you picture an Evil Dead movie without the humour?I think subtleties like that are about the only reason to even attempt to recapture the lightning in a bottle aspect of some these original hits. Also, keep an eye out for which ones have the original directors or writers tied to them.If they have no connections to the past, then odds are they have an uphill climb ahead of them.
Either way,it looks as though we will be treated to an unoriginal movie release just about weekly for the next couple of years.Counting sequels and t.v show adaptations we seem to be in a rerun cycle of mediocrity.Find the fresh ideas and cherish them at the movies or go out and rent some of the above mentioned and feel what it was like all those years ago when movies were new and different. In the mean time, dive into some playoff hockey or basketball and go out to baseball or upcoming football game. Speaking of which, one of my next few posts will be dedicated to the top 5 best and worst football movies of all time.It sounds like a narrow list, but trust me,there are over 50 movies that feature the pigskin,so keep an eye out for the odd blast from the past and a few surprises as well.
Until then my friends.
